BAGH — The third phase of the Azad Kashmir elections faced a major security breach on Monday after armed individuals allegedly seized ballot papers at gunpoint ahead of polling at the Bani Minhasan polling station in Bagh district.
According to the presiding officer, armed assailants raided the facility before voting officially commenced, forcefully taking control of the ballot papers. Sources indicate that the affected location—polling stations number 4 and 7—serves as the native polling station for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas.
Preliminary reports suggest that over four hundred bogus votes had already been cast at these stations prior to the takeover. The brazen daylight incident has raised serious questions regarding the security of electoral materials, the deployment of law enforcement personnel, and the overall transparency of the ongoing election phases.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the breach, while further details regarding the exact number of compromised ballots and subsequent action from the election commission are awaited.
