ISLAMABAD: The prolonged silence on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s official social media account has sparked internal party discussions regarding potential avenues for de-escalating political tensions with the military establishment.
No direct statements have been published on Khan’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, @ImranKhanPTI, for over five months, with the last direct message posted on March 21, 2026, following a phone conversation with his sons. The extended hiatus marks a significant departure from previous months, during which aggressive posts targeting top military leadership were regularly circulated via the party’s official digital network.
Party insiders noted that the previous digital strategy alienated moderate voices within PTI who advocated for dialogue and reconciliation with the establishment. Tensions peaked in December 2025 when military authorities publicly accused Khan of using prison visitations and digital media to orchestrate anti-institutional campaigns. Government officials subsequently implemented stricter oversight on jail visits, alleging that family members—particularly Khan’s sister Aleema Khan—were delivering aggressive political directions to the press following meetings.
While PTI sources clarified that the reduction in confrontational rhetoric does not signal any formal agreement or political deal with state institutions, they emphasized that the calm messaging environment could create much-needed space for political normalization if sustained.
