ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal declined to deny reports regarding his handwritten resignation during an appearance on Geo News’ current affairs program Capital Talk, following the recent tragic fire incident at PIMS Hospital.
Responding to inquiries by senior journalist and program host Hamid Mir regarding whether he had submitted a handwritten resignation letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the federal minister notably refrained from issuing a rebuttal. When pressed on reports that the Prime Minister had declined to accept his resignation, Kamal stated, “When you already know the details, why are you asking me?” Suggesting the host direct further questions to his sources, Kamal added, “You should inquire from the place where you received this information.”
The exchange follows earlier public statements by the health minister in which he voluntarily surrendered himself for administrative accountability in the wake of the PIMS neonatal ward fire, which resulted in 14 infant casualties.
Kamal previously affirmed that he had presented his accountability to the Prime Minister as his direct authority, emphasizing that he would abide fully by any decision made by the premier regarding cabinet tenure or departmental oversight.
