KARACHI: The valuation of Pakistan’s official gold reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by Rs 392 billion during FY2025-26, driven primarily by a sustained rally in global bullion prices.

According to official central bank data, the total monetary value of the nation’s gold reserves reached Rs 2,334 billion ($8.39 billion) by the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2026. International gold prices surged by 22.5 percent over the 12-month period, significantly bolstering the rupee-denominated valuation of the central bank’s foreign exchange assets. This follows a similar appreciation in FY2024-25, when rising global rates boosted reserve valuation by Rs 591 billion to settle at Rs 1,942 billion.

In addition to valuation gains, Pakistan’s physical gold holdings expanded by 70 kilograms during FY2025-26. Total national reserves reached 64.82 metric tons by June 30, 2026.

Financial analysts attribute the record valuation gains to central bank accumulation trends worldwide and heightened global demand for safe-haven assets amid macroeconomic shifts, providing a substantial boost to Pakistan’s balance sheet reserves.
