World ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Ashura across the country today with religious devotion and heightened security arrangements, as millions of mourners commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the tragedy of Karbala.
Processions of mourning are being taken out in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, as well as in smaller towns and rural areas. Religious gatherings and Majalis are also being held where scholars highlight the message of patience, truth, and resistance against injustice embodied in the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA).
Strict security measures have been enforced nationwide to ensure peace during the processions. Authorities have deployed heavy contingents of police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies along procession routes and sensitive areas. Temporary road closures and diversions have been implemented to manage traffic and ensure the safety of participants and the general public.
In several sensitive districts, mobile phone services and internet connectivity have been partially suspended as a preventive measure to avoid any potential security threats. Section 144 has also been imposed in multiple regions, prohibiting the display of weapons and restricting activities that could disrupt public order. Officials say these steps are precautionary and aimed at maintaining peace during large public gatherings.
In Lahore, the central procession commenced from Nisar Haveli and is moving along its traditional route towards Karbala Gamay Shah. In Karachi, the main procession began from Nishtar Park and will conclude at its designated destination after passing through its established route. Similar processions are underway in Rawalpindi and other cities under strict monitoring.
According to provincial authorities, over one hundred thousand security personnel have been deployed in Punjab alone to ensure the safety of mourners and to monitor procession routes through surveillance and checkpoints. Walk-through gates and temporary security posts have been installed at key entry points.
In Quetta and Peshawar, processions are also being carried out under tight security, with multiple mourning gatherings scheduled throughout the day. Volunteers have set up water stalls, medical camps, and assistance points along the routes to facilitate participants.
Following the culmination of processions, “Sham-e-Ghariban” gatherings will be held in various cities, where the aftermath of Karbala will be remembered through sermons and mourning rituals.
Federal and provincial leadership, including the President, Prime Minister, Interior Minister, and Chief Ministers, have directed law enforcement agencies to maintain strict vigilance and ensure peace across the country.
The day of Ashura continues to serve as a powerful reminder of sacrifice, justice, and standing firm against oppression, deeply rooted in the historical legacy of Karbala.
