ISLAMABAD — Internal disagreement has surfaced within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the party excluded Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi from a contempt of court petition filed against top government figures regarding the non-implementation of Supreme Court orders on Imran Khan’s medical transfer.
The petition, filed on behalf of Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan, names Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Law Minister, Information Minister, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Interior Secretary, and prison authorities. However, the omission of the Interior Minister sparked debate within party circles and parliamentary meetings. Sources indicate that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan advocated for focusing purely on the administrative heads responsible for executing the August 18 order to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital, rather than turning the filing into a political confrontation.
Addressing the rationale behind the legal strategy, PTI leader Barrister Salman Akram Raja stated that respondents were selected based on direct evidentiary links to the decision-making process that stalled the hospital transfer. He emphasized that naming the Interior Secretary provided the requisite legal framework without adding unnecessary political layers.
In response, federal government representatives argued that the original court order faced operational hurdles, maintaining that security concerns prevented the safe transfer of the PTI founder to a private facility, which led authorities to conduct a medical evaluation at PIMS hospital instead.
