ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat has termed the party’s August 5 protests deeply concerning and disappointing, demanding an unbiased performance audit of the leadership, protest strategy, and organizational structure.
In a detailed statement shared on the social media platform X, Marwat highlighted that no major political demonstrations were reported from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, or Gilgit-Baltistan. Expressing shock over the strategy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he questioned why the party’s entire focus was restricted to a small venue in Peshawar where merely 3,500 chairs were set up, rather than organizing a large-scale public movement.
Marwat openly questioned the decision to abandon the spacious Imran Khan Stadium in favor of a limited venue, asserting that such choices reflect a clear lack of confidence by the current leadership in their ability to mobilize the public.
He further noted that the failure to bring thousands—let alone millions—of supporters onto the streets should serve as a serious wake-up call for the party hierarchy. Criticizing the internal culture, Marwat stressed that blaming grassroots workers for every failure while labeling internal critics as traitors will no longer work, urging PTI to undergo rigorous self-accountability.
