National ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is set to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan after key political consensus emerged between the ruling coalition partners, as senior leaders confirmed that the principle of the single largest party will be followed in the region.

According to official political sources, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, during which both leaders congratulated each other over the electoral performance in Gilgit-Baltistan and discussed the formation of the next regional government.

During the discussion, both sides agreed that the party securing the highest number of seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly would be given the mandate to form the government. The understanding marks an important development in coordination between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP at the federal level.

The political leaders also agreed to continue consultations on broader administrative and governance matters in Gilgit-Baltistan, signaling a cooperative approach despite electoral competition. Officials said further meetings are expected to finalize the structure of the upcoming regional administration.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended congratulations over the electoral outcomes and appreciated the political engagement in the region. In a light remark, he reportedly noted the effective campaign strategy of PPP leadership, while President Asif Ali Zardari responded in a similarly cordial tone, highlighting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s role in strengthening party outreach.

Based on unofficial and preliminary results, the 24-member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly shows PPP emerging as the leading party with 10 seats. Independent candidates secured 7 seats, while PML-N won 6 seats. With 13 seats required for a simple majority, the final government formation is expected to depend on alliances and support from independents.

Officials from both parties indicated that discussions are underway to ensure political stability in the region. Sources suggest that independents may play a crucial role in shaping the final government configuration, as no single party has achieved an outright majority.

Political analysts view the development as an effort to maintain coalition harmony at the national level while ensuring a smooth transition of power in Gilgit-Baltistan. The agreement is also seen as a step toward avoiding post-election deadlock and promoting administrative continuity in the region.

Further announcements regarding cabinet formation and chief ministerial candidates are expected in the coming days as consultations progress between coalition partners and elected representatives.
