Tehran (The COW News Digital) Russia has announced its readiness to assist in resolving the ongoing crisis surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, reaffirming its commitment to a diplomatic and long-term political solution amid escalating tensions with Western powers.
According to international media reports, the statement came from Russia’s Ambassador to Iran, Alexey Dedov, during an interview where he emphasized Moscow’s continued engagement with Tehran on nuclear-related discussions. Dedov underscored that the current situation was the result of what he called the “misguided policies” of Western nations, particularly those led by the United States and its European allies.
“We are providing, and will continue to provide, all possible and comprehensive assistance to help Iran reach a long-term political and diplomatic resolution to this crisis,” Ambassador Dedov stated. He added that consultations between Moscow and Tehran are taking place at multiple levels, including political, technical, and security dialogues, as both nations work to find a mutually beneficial path forward.
The ambassador noted that Russia considers recent attempts by Western countries — particularly European members of the United Nations Security Council, with U.S. backing — to reimpose sanctions on Iran as “legally and procedurally unacceptable.” Dedov reaffirmed that Moscow opposes any unilateral or coercive measures that undermine the spirit of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal designed to limit Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
He stressed that Russia’s stance remains consistent with international law and diplomacy, emphasizing that dialogue and negotiation are the only viable routes to stability. Dedov further mentioned that Iran and Russia are in “continuous contact” to strengthen cooperation in energy, defense, and trade sectors — ties that have deepened since the imposition of Western sanctions on both nations.
The ambassador’s remarks come at a time of renewed global debate over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, with Western officials accusing Tehran of breaching uranium enrichment limits, while Iranian leaders insist their program is for peaceful energy purposes.
Russia’s call for diplomacy reflects its broader strategic goal of maintaining influence in the Middle East while countering Western efforts to isolate Tehran.
Moscow’s pledge underscores a shared determination between the two allies to prevent further escalation and promote a negotiated settlement.
