World ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan Women’s cricket team endured a disappointing outing as they suffered their third consecutive defeat in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, going down to Bangladesh by 23 runs in Southampton. The loss further dented Pakistan’s hopes of progressing in the tournament after another underwhelming batting performance.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 123 runs. Their innings got off to a shaky start as Pakistan’s Fatima Sana struck twice early, removing Dilara Akter and Shamim Akter in quick succession. Javeria Ferdous also failed to make an impact, as Bangladesh struggled initially against disciplined bowling.
However, Bangladesh recovered through a crucial partnership between Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostary, who steadied the innings and pushed the score forward. Sobhana contributed a valuable 22 runs before being dismissed, while captain Nigar Sultana top-scored with 36 runs, anchoring the middle order.
A late surge came from Shorna Akter, who played an aggressive cameo of 39 runs off 22 balls, helping Bangladesh reach a defendable total of 123 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Pakistan’s bowling attack showed moments of control, but failed to restrict the flow of runs in the death overs.
In response, Pakistan began their chase positively with Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza putting together a solid opening stand of 49 runs. Muneeba scored 25 while Gull added 23, giving Pakistan a promising platform.
However, the innings collapsed dramatically thereafter. From a position of 70 for 2, Pakistan lost six wickets for just 14 runs in a span of 35 deliveries, completely derailing their chase. The middle and lower order failed to resist Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack.
Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 100 runs in 20 overs, falling 23 runs short of the target. Bangladesh’s bowlers Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter were the standout performers, claiming three wickets each and breaking Pakistan’s batting momentum at crucial stages.
The defeat marks Pakistan’s third consecutive loss in the tournament, raising concerns over their form and consistency in both batting and bowling departments. With limited matches remaining, Pakistan will need a strong turnaround to stay competitive in the ongoing World Cup campaign.
