New Delhi ( The COW News Digital)Two individuals have been arrested for issuing online threats of rape and murder against Indian actress and former Lok Sabha member Divya Spandana, also known as Ramya. The arrests come after the actress received a barrage of threatening messages on social media following her comments on a high-profile case involving popular Kannada actor Darshan.

According to Indian media reports, Divya Spandana filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police citing threats from over 40 social media accounts targeting her with abusive language and violent threats. The threats escalated after Ramya publicly spoke about the ongoing murder case in which actor Darshan and his girlfriend are accused.

Following her complaint, the Cyber Crime Wing of Bengaluru police launched an investigation and identified several accounts responsible for the threatening messages. During the probe, two suspects were arrested and confessed to their involvement in sending the threats.

Police officials revealed that besides the two arrested individuals, they have identified an additional 11 accounts linked to similar threatening behavior, bringing the total number of offending accounts to over 48.

Divya Spandana is a well-known figure in the Kannada film industry, having starred in numerous blockbuster films. After a period away from the spotlight, she made a return to acting in 2023. The recent harassment has brought attention to the increasing misuse of social media platforms to target celebrities, particularly women, with abusive and violent threats.

Authorities have vowed to take strict action against individuals misusing social media to spread hate and threaten public figures. Cyber crime officials continue to trace other accounts involved in the harassment campaign against the actress.

This case highlights the growing concern over online safety for public personalities and the urgent need for more stringent measures to curb online abuse. The police urged the public to report any such accounts and assured that swift legal action would be taken to protect citizens’ rights and safety.

As the investigation progresses, the spotlight remains on how social media platforms and law enforcement can work together to create a safer environment for users, especially vulnerable individuals facing online harassment.
