New york ( the COW News Digital)The United Nations Human Rights Chief, Volker Turk, has urgently called on the Israeli government to immediately stop its plan for a full military occupation of Gaza, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In a strong statement, Turk condemned the Israeli Security Cabinet’s recent approval of the plan to completely militarize Gaza, emphasizing that this move not only obstructs the two-state solution but also violates the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

“The ongoing plan by Israel to occupy Gaza is a direct breach of international legal frameworks,” Turk said, referencing a specific ICJ ruling that mandates Israel to end its occupation and respect Palestinian sovereignty. He called for Israel to comply with international law and to actively support a peaceful resolution based on the two-state principle.

Turk warned that escalating the conflict in Gaza will deepen the existing humanitarian crisis, resulting in mass displacement, widespread destruction, and potential war crimes. “The intensification of war will lead to further killing, devastation, and suffering among civilians,” he said, stressing the urgent need to prioritize human lives and safety.

He urged Israel to allow unimpeded humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population. “Ensuring uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance must be a priority over any military escalation,” Turk added.

In addition to demands directed at Israel, Turk called on Palestinian armed groups to immediately release all hostages and demanded that Israel free Palestinians held unjustly in custody. He stressed the importance of mutual steps to de-escalate tensions and foster conditions conducive to peace.

Turk concluded by emphasizing that the conflict in Gaza must end immediately. He urged both Israelis and Palestinians to seize the opportunity to live in harmony and peace, warning that continued violence threatens regional stability and the lives of millions.

The UN’s stance highlights the international community’s growing concern over the humanitarian and legal implications of Israel’s military strategy in Gaza. As violence persists, global calls for diplomacy and restraint are intensifying to prevent further loss of life and destruction.
