LAHORE — Heavy monsoon rainfall continued to submerge several districts across Punjab, with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirming that the current sixth spell of monsoon rains will persist through August 21.

According to a report released by the PDMA, Rawalpindi received the highest volume of rainfall over the past 24 hours, recording up to 130 millimeters. The intense downpour triggered rising water levels in Nullah Lai, prompting authorities to sound alarm sirens to warn residents in low-lying areas. Other affected regions include Attock with 79 mm, Lahore Airport with 65 mm, Wazirabad with 50 mm, and both Gujranwala and Jhelum recording 39 mm of rain.

The PDMA spokesperson provided additional precipitation figures across the province, noting 33 mm in Narowal, 30 mm in Mandi Bahauddin, 19 mm in Gujrat, 11 mm in Sialkot, and 7 mm in Murree. In response to the persistent weather system, administrative commissioners, deputy commissioners, and emergency response departments across all districts have been placed on high alert to handle potential urban flooding and drainage challenges.

PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa urged citizens to take precautionary measures during the ongoing weather system. He advised the public to stay indoors and remain in secure locations during heavy rainfall and electrical storms to minimize the risk of lightning strikes and waterlogging hazards.
