World ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan cricket team head coach Mike Hesson has provided clarification regarding the decision to exclude wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan from the T20 squad, stating that the move is part of a broader team-building strategy focused on long-term performance and balance.

Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi, Hesson said that Rizwan had not been part of the T20 squad since he took over coaching responsibilities. He emphasized that team selection decisions are based on collective performance and future planning rather than individual reputations.

The head coach noted that prior to his appointment, Rizwan was neither serving as T20 captain nor included in the squad structure. He further explained that following the ODI series against West Indies, the team management felt a leadership change was necessary in order to improve overall results.

According to Hesson, Rizwan’s captaincy period did not produce the desired level of team performance, which led selectors and management to reconsider the leadership setup. He stressed that such decisions are made in the best interest of the team rather than personal considerations.

“We must look at the team as a whole rather than individual performances,” Hesson stated, adding that Pakistan’s cricket structure requires continuous evaluation of available options to build a competitive squad.

He further explained that dropping Rizwan also served as a message to other players that selection is performance-based and aligned with team requirements. Hesson added that player confidence within the squad has improved over the past year due to clearer roles and opportunities.

With the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled for next year, the head coach said Pakistan must explore multiple combinations and develop depth in the squad to remain competitive at the highest level.

Hesson concluded by reiterating that the focus remains on strengthening team balance, improving consistency, and preparing a squad capable of delivering strong performances in upcoming international tournaments.

The comments have sparked discussion among cricket fans, as Rizwan remains one of Pakistan’s most experienced and consistent performers in white-ball cricket.
