TEHRAN(The COW News Digital) Iran has accused the United States of creating obstacles in ongoing peace negotiations by making what it described as “excessive demands,” according to remarks made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

Iranian state-affiliated media reported that Araghchi informed the UN chief that Washington’s past actions, including broken promises, contradictory policies, and military operations, had seriously damaged diplomatic efforts in the region. Despite these concerns, he emphasized that Tehran continues to participate seriously in negotiations being facilitated through Pakistani mediation.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the conversation focused on regional stability, ongoing diplomatic efforts, and the importance of avoiding further escalation in the Middle East. Araghchi reportedly stressed that sustainable peace could only be achieved through mutual respect and balanced negotiations rather than pressure tactics or unilateral demands.

The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to previous diplomatic setbacks, claiming that mistrust between Tehran and Washington had deepened over time due to shifting US policies and military interventions. He maintained that Iran remains committed to dialogue but warned that unrealistic conditions could undermine chances for progress.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Secretary-General reiterated the importance of diplomacy and rejected the use of force against the sovereignty of any country. Guterres called for continued dialogue among all parties and stressed the need to preserve stability in an already volatile region.

The latest developments come amid renewed international efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States. Pakistani mediation has recently gained attention after reports emerged that Pakistan’s military leadership has been actively involved in facilitating communication between the two sides.

Reports indicate that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement linked to the mediation process. At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he remains in continuous contact with Pakistan’s military leadership and expressed hope that negotiations with Iran could eventually lead to an agreement.

Observers say the mediation effort reflects Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in regional conflict management as international stakeholders attempt to prevent further instability in the Middle East.
