National ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan’s federal government has indicated a possible reduction in petroleum product prices following a decline in global crude oil rates, with authorities moving to establish a high-level committee to design a more transparent pricing mechanism.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said that recent diplomatic and geopolitical developments, including a reported ceasefire understanding between Iran and the United States, have contributed to easing tensions in global energy markets. As a result, international oil prices have started to trend downward, opening room for potential relief for domestic consumers.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with senior civil and military leadership, has played a role in supporting diplomatic efforts that are now reflecting positively on global markets.
He further noted that the prime minister has directed the government to ensure that any benefit arising from reduced international oil prices is passed on directly to the public without delay. “The government is committed to transferring the impact of global price reductions to consumers in a timely and transparent manner,” he said.
To support this objective, the petroleum ministry has constituted a high-level committee tasked with reviewing and refining the weekly pricing formula for petroleum products. According to the minister, the new mechanism will aim to improve transparency, allowing citizens to better understand how fuel prices are determined and what factors influence changes.
Officials stated that the committee will consult all relevant stakeholders, including industry representatives, economic experts, and regulatory authorities, before finalizing recommendations. The revised framework is expected to strengthen public trust and reduce uncertainty surrounding frequent fuel price adjustments.
Ali Pervaiz Malik also highlighted that despite regional instability, Pakistan has maintained an uninterrupted fuel supply chain. He emphasized that the government is actively reassessing its broader energy security strategy to ensure resilience against external shocks and market volatility.
He added that multiple reforms are underway to strengthen the country’s long-term energy planning, including improved coordination among institutions and enhanced monitoring of international market trends.
