Washington(The COW News Digital)The United States has approved the sale of equipment and support systems for Saudi Arabia’s F-15 fighter jet fleet in a deal valued at approximately $3 billion, according to the US Department of Defense.

In an official statement, the Pentagon confirmed that the agreement includes the supply of aircraft components, logistical support, and maintenance-related equipment intended to enhance the operational readiness of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s F-15 aircraft. The approval marks another significant step in ongoing defense cooperation between Washington and Riyadh.

Pentagon officials stated that, as part of the agreement, a limited number of American civilian contractors or US military personnel may be deployed to Saudi Arabia on a long-term basis. Their role would primarily involve technical assistance, training, and support to ensure the effective use and maintenance of the equipment.

The Pentagon emphasized that the proposed sale would contribute to regional security by strengthening Saudi Arabia’s defensive capabilities. “This sale supports the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a key partner in the Middle East,” the statement said.

The deal comes at a time when Saudi Arabia continues to modernize its air force amid evolving security challenges in the region. The F-15 remains one of the backbone aircraft of the Saudi air fleet and is considered critical for air defense and deterrence missions.

This approval follows another major US arms sale to Saudi Arabia announced just three days earlier. Washington had authorized the sale of Patriot missile systems and related equipment worth nearly $9 billion, further underlining the scale of defense ties between the two countries.

US officials have repeatedly said that arms sales to Saudi Arabia are aimed at bolstering defensive capabilities and ensuring stability in the Gulf region. However, such deals have often drawn scrutiny from human rights groups and lawmakers who argue that weapons sales should be carefully reviewed in light of regional conflicts.

Despite criticism, the US administration maintains that military cooperation with Saudi Arabia is essential for countering shared security threats and protecting strategic interests, including energy security and freedom of navigation.

Saudi officials have welcomed the approval, viewing it as a reinforcement of the long-standing strategic partnership between Riyadh and Washington. The latest agreement is expected to move forward following routine congressional review procedures.
