Washington(The COW News Digital)The White House has indicated that the use of military force is not being ruled out as part of US President Donald Trump’s consideration of options to acquire Greenland, underscoring the strategic importance Washington places on the Arctic territory.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement on Tuesday that President Trump has repeatedly made it clear that acquiring Greenland is among the United States’ national security priorities. She said the Arctic region holds growing strategic significance for Washington, particularly in terms of safeguarding US interests and countering rival powers.
According to Leavitt, the president and his national security team are evaluating multiple pathways to achieve this foreign policy objective. She added that, as commander-in-chief, the use of the US military is always an option, though no final decision has been announced.

The remarks come days after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that the Trump administration is examining the possibility of purchasing Greenland. Rubio downplayed immediate concerns about military intervention, suggesting that diplomatic and economic avenues remain under consideration.
Sources familiar with the matter said that while the issue has not been discussed publicly in recent months, internal deliberations within the administration have continued. The renewed focus reflects broader US concerns about expanding influence by rival powers in the Arctic, a region increasingly viewed as critical due to its shipping routes, natural resources, and military relevance.
According to officials, at the request of Rubio’s team, the US State Department recently prepared an internal assessment of Greenland’s natural resources. The analysis examined untapped reserves, including rare earth minerals, which are considered vital for advanced technologies and defense industries.
However, the assessment reportedly concluded that there is no reliable data confirming the true scale of these resources. It also warned that extreme weather conditions, limited infrastructure, and the high cost of development could make large-scale extraction economically challenging.
Greenland, an autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty, has gained increasing global attention in recent years due to its strategic location between North America and Europe. Its position in the Arctic makes it central to military planning, climate research, and emerging trade routes as polar ice continues to recede.
The White House’s comments have sparked renewed international debate and concern, particularly in Europe, where Denmark has previously rejected any suggestion of selling the territory. Greenlandic leaders have also repeatedly stated that the island is not for sale and that its future should be decided by its people.
