Islamabad( The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has welcomed the peace agreement reached in Doha late last night, calling it a “positive first step in the right direction.”
In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dar emphasized that concrete measures must be taken to prevent terrorism originating from Afghan soil and targeting Pakistan. He stressed that ensuring stability and security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is vital for regional peace.
“We welcome the agreement concluded in Doha,” he said. “It marks the beginning of a constructive process toward lasting stability. However, preventing cross-border terrorism from Afghan territory remains a top priority.”
The Deputy Prime Minister further commended the constructive roles of Qatar and Türkiye, both of which facilitated the recent talks between stakeholders. He confirmed that the upcoming meeting in Türkiye will focus on establishing a “credible and verifiable monitoring mechanism” to ensure the effective implementation of the Doha accord.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and cooperation, emphasizing that mutual respect and joint responsibility are essential to overcome the challenges of terrorism and insecurity. “All possible measures must be implemented to prevent further loss of life,” he added.
The Doha agreement, reportedly backed by multiple regional partners, aims to de-escalate border tensions and promote joint counterterrorism coordination. Pakistan has consistently raised concerns over the use of Afghan territory by militant groups involved in attacks within its borders, urging the interim Afghan authorities to take stronger action against such elements.
Political analysts view the recent statement by Ishaq Dar as a signal of Islamabad’s cautious optimism — welcoming the dialogue process while reminding stakeholders of the need for practical outcomes.
As diplomatic efforts continue, both Pakistan and Afghanistan face the challenge of balancing security cooperation with domestic political sensitivities, making the upcoming Türkiye meeting crucial for defining the next phase of engagement.
