MUMBAI — Veteran Indian television actress Jayati Bhatia has recently shed light on the circumstances surrounding her close friend and co-star Dipika Kakar’s conversion to Islam ahead of her 2018 marriage to actor Shoaib Ibrahim, clarifying that the spiritual decision was entirely independent of her wedding.
During a recent interview, Bhatia shared that Kakar was navigating a particularly difficult and testing phase in her life when she decided to visit the Ajmer Sharif shrine. According to Bhatia, the spiritual experience provided Kakar with immense inner peace and psychological comfort during a period of personal distress.
Bhatia emphasized that Kakar ultimately chose to embrace Islam of her own free will, explicitly dismissing widespread public speculation and social media narratives suggesting she converted merely to conform to her husband’s faith. The senior actress noted that Kakar had personally confided in her, confirming that the choice was entirely her own personal preference.
Furthermore, Bhatia praised the enduring bond between the celebrity couple, highlighting how they have consistently supported each other through thick and thin. She pointed out that when Kakar faced a cancer diagnosis in 2025, Shoaib stood firmly by her side through every challenging medical phase, just as Kakar has devotedly supported Shoaib and his family for years.
Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim tied the knot in 2018, and the couple shares a three-year-old son, Ruhaan.
