UAE(The COW News Digital)The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, concluded a landmark visit to India on January 20, 2026, during which both nations signed key defense, trade, and energy agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
Sheikh Mohammed was warmly welcomed in New Delhi by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the first high-level UAE visit to India in 2026. The discussions focused on enhancing strategic cooperation, expanding trade relations, and fostering energy security in the region.

A significant highlight of the visit was the signing of a ten-year agreement for the supply of 500,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the UAE to India. Officials noted that the deal would contribute to India’s energy diversification strategy while ensuring a steady supply of LNG to meet the country’s growing demand.
In addition to energy cooperation, Sheikh Mohammed and Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of deepening defense ties. Both sides agreed to enhance military collaboration, joint exercises, and knowledge sharing to strengthen regional security. Analysts say that these measures signal a more robust strategic partnership between India and the UAE, especially in the context of increasing geopolitical and maritime challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
The visit also provided a platform for discussions on technology, infrastructure, and investment initiatives. Leaders emphasized the need for sustainable development, innovation-driven growth, and joint efforts in emerging sectors such as renewable energy and digital technology.
In a joint statement, both leaders highlighted the historical friendship between India and the UAE, stressing that these agreements are intended to build long-term cooperation and mutual prosperity. The MoUs signed during the visit are expected to create jobs, boost trade flows, and enhance bilateral engagement across multiple sectors.
Observers noted that the UAE-India partnership is becoming increasingly strategic, driven by economic interdependence and shared security interests. The agreements signed during this visit are expected to further consolidate the relationship and reinforce both countries’ regional influence.
Sheikh Mohammed’s visit, though brief, was described by officials as highly productive, laying the groundwork for continued collaboration in defense, trade, and energy for years to come.
