The US Department of Defense will act in accordance with President Donald Trump’s expectations on Iran, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate. His remarks come amid strong warnings from the Trump administration against any Iranian move toward developing nuclear weapons.
Speaking to the media, Defense Secretary Hegseth issued a firm warning to Tehran, stating that the United States is prepared to use all available options to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear capabilities. He said Iran had previously been given opportunities to reach an agreement but failed to do so, and as a result should not have continued expanding its nuclear program.
“Iran had a chance to make a deal,” Hegseth said, adding that further progress toward nuclear weapons would not be tolerated. He emphasized that the Pentagon stands fully ready to implement whatever course of action President Trump deems necessary regarding Iran.

According to the US defense chief, the Department of Defense is aligned with the president’s strategic vision and prepared to respond decisively. “Whatever President Trump wants, the Pentagon is ready to do,” he said, underscoring unity between the White House and the military leadership at a time of heightened regional tensions.
The comments follow recent developments in the Middle East, where the United States has deployed a naval fleet to the region. A day earlier, President Trump publicly warned Iran that a US naval task force was moving rapidly toward the area with what he described as “full power and a clear objective.” The deployment has been widely interpreted as a show of force intended to deter Iranian actions and reassure US allies.
Iran has responded sharply to the US warnings. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected President Trump’s threats, stating that Iranian forces are on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any act of aggression. He said Iran would defend itself decisively if attacked, signaling that Tehran is unwilling to back down under pressure.
The exchange of warnings has raised concerns among analysts about the risk of miscalculation in an already volatile region. Experts note that while both sides appear to be using strong rhetoric to project strength, the presence of military assets increases the stakes and the potential consequences of any confrontation.
The situation has drawn international attention, with calls from various quarters for restraint and diplomacy. Observers say that despite the tough language, backchannel communications and diplomatic efforts may still play a role in preventing further escalation.
As tensions persist, the global community remains focused on developments in the Middle East, where any direct conflict involving Iran and the United States could have far-reaching political, economic and security implications.
