National ( The cow news digital ) Heavy torrential rains triggered flash floods in the Orakzai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing widespread destruction and damaging dozens of homes, shops, and vehicles, local authorities reported on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, intense rainfall in the Mashti Mela area led to powerful flood torrents that swept through residential and commercial zones. Several houses and shops were reportedly washed away as the water surged through low-lying settlements. Vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, were also caught in the flood currents, resulting in significant material losses.

Residents described the situation as sudden and overwhelming, with floodwaters entering homes within minutes, leaving little time for evacuation or protection of property. Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the damage and assist in relief operations.

Local administration officials confirmed that rescue efforts are underway, while damage assessment teams are being deployed to determine the full scale of destruction. Temporary shelters are being arranged for displaced families as authorities continue to monitor the situation.

The incident comes amid a broader spell of unstable weather across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy conditions in most districts of the province, with chances of strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall in several regions including Upper and Lower Dir, Bajaur, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Shangla, Kohistan, and surrounding areas.

Similarly, districts such as Torghar, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, Orakzai, and North and South Waziristan are also likely to experience intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, rainfall was also recorded in various parts of Punjab, including Lahore, where low-lying areas were temporarily submerged due to heavy showers early in the day.

According to weather data from the past 24 hours, varying intensities of rainfall were recorded across multiple regions of the province. Areas such as Chitral, Kalam, Peshawar, Mohmand Dam, and Takht Bhai received measurable rainfall, while strong dust-laden winds were also reported in several districts, including the provincial capital.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, as more rainfall activity is expected in the coming days. Relief and emergency services remain on alert to respond to any further incidents caused by unstable weather conditions.
