World ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan has formally requested China to expedite the refinancing of a $1.3 billion commercial loan to bolster its foreign exchange reserves, according to finance ministry sources.
Discussions between Pakistani and Chinese officials are currently underway to finalize the terms and conditions. Sources familiar with the matter expressed optimism that once the technical procedures are wrapped up, the funds will be disbursed to Pakistan within the current month.
Debt Repayments and External Financing
The refinancing request follows significant debt repayments made by Pakistan in July, amounting to $2.2 billion in external obligations. This included the settlement of a $1.3 billion Chinese commercial debt, as previously confirmed by the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan.
Officials at the Ministry of Finance stated that the timely receipt of the $1.3 billion inflow will provide critical support to the country’s foreign exchange reserves and help maintain balance-of-payments stability.
Economic analysts view the early completion of this refinancing agreement as an important step for Pakistan in managing its short-term external financing requirements and strengthening investor confidence amid ongoing fiscal challenges.
