The much-anticipated film adaptation of India’s popular web series “Mirzapur” has made an impressive debut at the box office, earning more than Rs250 million on its opening day, according to reported figures.

Titled “Mirzapur: The Movie,” the film arrived in cinemas on September 4, 2026, carrying the popularity of the original streaming series and generating strong interest among audiences even before its theatrical release.

The film features several familiar faces from the “Mirzapur” franchise, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu. The strong advance booking response reportedly indicated substantial audience interest ahead of its release.

According to reports, the movie crossed the Rs250 million mark on its first day, delivering a stronger opening than several recent Hindi releases, including “Awarapan 2,” “Dhamal 4,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Bhoot Bangla.”

The reported opening has added to the growing expectations surrounding the film, particularly because the project represents the transition of a successful digital franchise to the big screen.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the movie brings together a large ensemble cast. Alongside Fazal, Tripathi and Divyenndu, the cast includes Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Ravi Kishan, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi, among other performers.

The original “Mirzapur” series premiered in 2018 and quickly developed a strong following among viewers. Three seasons were released through 2024, establishing the characters and storyline as one of India’s prominent streaming franchises.

The decision to expand the franchise into cinema generated considerable anticipation among fans who had followed the series for years. The reported first-day performance suggests that this established audience has translated into significant theatrical interest.

Positive reactions from audiences and critics have also reportedly contributed to the film’s early momentum. However, its overall box-office performance will depend on how strongly it maintains audience interest throughout the opening weekend and subsequent weeks.

The film’s opening is being closely watched by the Indian entertainment industry as another example of a successful streaming property attempting to establish itself on the theatrical circuit.

With a recognizable cast, an established franchise and strong initial business, “Mirzapur: The Movie” has made a notable start. Its performance in the coming days will determine whether the film can maintain its momentum and emerge as one of the year’s major box-office successes.
