MOSCOW (The COW News Digital ) Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, discussing the ongoing Ukraine conflict and the need to continue diplomatic efforts toward a possible resolution.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the conversation as constructive and highly candid, saying the two leaders spoke for approximately one hour.
According to Ushakov, Putin told Trump that Russia had no aggressive intentions toward European countries. The Russian president also reportedly rejected claims that Moscow posed a threat to Europe.
Ushakov said Putin argued that concerns about a possible Russian threat were being used to encourage greater support for Ukraine and justify increased defence spending among European countries.
The Kremlin official said Trump, during the conversation, emphasized the importance of bringing the Ukraine conflict to an end. According to the Russian account, the US president also indicated that ending the war could create broader and promising opportunities for restoring relations between Washington and Moscow.
The two presidents also agreed to continue efforts to address humanitarian issues linked to the conflict. These efforts include discussions concerning the exchange of people who are being held in detention or serving sentences.
The humanitarian dimension of the conflict has remained an important issue in diplomatic contacts between Russia and the United States, particularly regarding detainees and other individuals affected by the prolonged hostilities.
Ushakov did not provide further details about the conversation, saying the discussion between Putin and Trump was confidential. He did not disclose whether the leaders reached any specific agreement on a potential framework for ending the war.
The phone call comes as diplomatic efforts surrounding the Ukraine conflict continue to attract international attention. Any progress in direct communication between Washington and Moscow could potentially influence broader negotiations aimed at ending the fighting.
