Petroleum Prices Likely to Rise from February 16 in Pakistan

Pakistani consumers are facing another blow as petroleum prices are expected to increase from February 16, 2026. Government sources indicate that fuel costs could rise by up to PKR 6.55 per liter, impacting transportation and daily expenses nationwide.

According to insiders, petrol is likely to see an increase of PKR 4.39 per liter, while high-speed diesel prices may go up by PKR 5.40 per liter. Similarly, kerosene prices could rise by PKR 4 per liter, and light diesel oil is expected to increase by PKR 6.55 per liter.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has completed the necessary calculations, and the summary for the revised rates has been forwarded to the Petroleum Division. The division will submit the recommendations to the Prime Minister for approval. Once approved, the Petroleum Division will issue an official notification specifying the new prices.

The price adjustment is expected to take effect starting February 16. Analysts warn that the increase in petroleum costs will likely contribute to inflationary pressures on other goods and services, including transport fares, commodities, and utility costs. Consumers may feel the impact directly in daily expenditures, particularly in urban centers with high fuel dependency.

Industry experts note that global crude oil price fluctuations and local taxation policies are key factors driving these changes. While fuel price adjustments are a routine process, frequent hikes exacerbate economic challenges for the average Pakistani household.

The government has urged citizens to prepare for the new rates and advised the transport and logistics sectors to plan accordingly. Policymakers continue to weigh measures that could cushion the effect on low- and middle-income groups, although details of potential subsidies or relief packages are yet to be confirmed.

This upcoming fuel price hike comes amid already rising inflation, and economists warn that the cumulative effect could strain household budgets and increase operational costs for businesses. Market watchers will closely monitor public response once the notification is officially released.

As Pakistan braces for the increase, experts recommend energy conservation strategies and judicious use of fuel to mitigate the impact of rising prices on daily life
