WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has announced what he characterized as the “most crushing economic operation” ever launched against a nation, signaling a dramatic escalation in efforts to isolate Iran. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the initiative as “Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale” after accusing Tehran of failing to seize opportunities to reach a negotiated agreement.
The American president warned that any third-party nation or entity providing financial or logistical lifelines to Tehran—including through airports, businesses, or government channels—would face severe economic fallout from the United States. He specifically called for an immediate cessation of activities such as oil smuggling, financial swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies operating on Iran’s behalf.
Trump framed the action as an “Economic D-Day” and called on international allies to join Washington in cutting off Tehran’s commercial capabilities. He asserted that prior actions had severely degraded Iran’s military infrastructure and currency, reiterating his stance that the Iranian government would never be permitted to acquire a nuclear weapon.
