World ( The cow news digital ) Fresh ethnic violence has erupted in the Indian state of Manipur, raising renewed concerns over security and stability in the conflict-affected northeastern region. The latest incidents have intensified pressure on authorities, who continue to face criticism over their handling of the prolonged unrest.
According to media reports, violence broke out in Manipur’s Kamjong district, where unidentified attackers allegedly set fire to multiple residential properties in separate incidents. Reports indicate that around 20 homes were damaged or destroyed across three locations during the attacks.
Among the affected areas was the border village of Phaimol, predominantly inhabited by members of the Kuki community. The village reportedly suffered extensive damage after several houses were set ablaze. Local reports also stated that retaliatory attacks targeted villages associated with the Naga community, resulting in additional property damage.
In another reported incident, attackers allegedly torched several homes in a Tangkhul Naga settlement in Kamjong district. Authorities have not publicly identified those responsible, and investigations into the attacks are ongoing.
The renewed violence comes amid continued ethnic tensions that have troubled Manipur for an extended period, displacing thousands of residents and causing widespread destruction. Security forces remain deployed in sensitive areas as officials attempt to prevent further escalation.
Human rights organization Amnesty International has previously expressed concern over the situation in Manipur, citing reports of violence, displacement, and alleged human rights violations. The organization has called for stronger measures to protect civilians, ensure accountability, and restore peace in the region.
Meanwhile, academic and regional affairs commentator Professor Ajailiu Niumai has reportedly warned that the ongoing conflict has become more destructive than earlier periods of unrest experienced in the 1990s. He attributed the worsening situation to inadequate governance and delayed responses, according to local media reports.

The latest violence has reignited debate over the Indian government’s approach to managing ethnic divisions and maintaining law and order in Manipur. Opposition leaders and civil society groups have repeatedly urged authorities to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and address the underlying causes of the conflict.
As investigations continue, officials are working to assess the damage and restore normalcy in affected communities. However, observers warn that without sustained dialogue and effective conflict-resolution measures, the risk of further violence remains significant.
