World ( The cow news digital ) Iran has denied reports that its delegation will hold direct talks with US officials in Doha, insisting that its ongoing discussions in Qatar are limited to Qatari authorities and focus solely on the issue of frozen Iranian assets.
The clarification came after US President Donald Trump claimed that Iranian officials had requested a meeting with an American delegation in the Qatari capital. Tehran, however, rejected the assertion, stating that no bilateral negotiations with the United States are scheduled.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran’s priority is to ensure the implementation of previously agreed understandings rather than initiate a new round of political negotiations with Washington. He emphasized that the Iranian delegation in Doha is engaged exclusively with Qatari officials to review progress on matters related to Iran’s frozen financial assets.
Baghaei further stated that the presence of the US delegation in Doha is unrelated to the Iranian visit and that there are no plans for talks with American representatives at any level in the coming days.
Meanwhile, senior US officials, including presidential adviser Jared Kushner and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, are in Doha for consultations with Qatari mediators regarding regional diplomatic issues and developments involving Iran.
Qatar also confirmed that while both the Iranian and American delegations are present in Doha, no direct meeting between the two sides has been arranged. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said the American delegation would continue discussions with mediators, while issues concerning Iran’s frozen assets remain linked to the implementation of previous agreements between Washington and Tehran.
Qatari officials also disclosed that approximately $6 billion in Iranian funds held in Qatar have not yet been transferred to Tehran. They noted that any release or use of the assets remains subject to mutual agreement between the United States and Iran, as well as the procedures established under existing arrangements.
The latest statements underscore the continued diplomatic sensitivity surrounding US-Iran relations, despite ongoing mediation efforts by Qatar. While Doha remains an important venue for indirect engagement between the two countries, both sides continue to publicly distance themselves from the prospect of immediate direct negotiations.
Diplomatic observers say the issue of frozen assets remains one of the key areas where indirect communication continues, even as broader political differences between Washington and Tehran persist.
