The Israeli military has confirmed the deaths of two more officers in Gaza, following an attack by Palestinian fighters.
According to Israeli media, the incident took place in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza, where two Israeli soldiers were killed in an ambush carried out by resistance fighters.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that on Friday, the fighters carried out a surprise attack in Shuja’iyya, resulting in the deaths of an Israeli captain, a platoon commander, and a commando from the Israeli Border Police’s secret unit.
The IDF confirmed that the two fallen soldiers had been involved in an operation aimed at expanding the buffer zone along Gaza’s border.
The military also reported that several soldiers were injured during the attack, and it took nearly two hours to evacuate them from the area, during which intense fighting ensued with Palestinian resistance fighters.
The IDF further detailed that the platoon commander was killed in an anti-tank missile strike, which also disabled his tank.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, the total number of Israeli soldiers killed has now reached 849.
