Peshawar( The COW News Digital) The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sohaib Afridi, and senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have agreed to form the provincial cabinet following a detailed meeting with party founder Imran Khan.
The meeting, held in Adiala Jail, was attended by PTI leaders including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar, Shahram Khan Tarakai, and Atif Khan, among others. According to party sources, the discussions focused on governance, security, and political strategy, with particular emphasis on maintaining unity within the provincial administration.
During the meeting, participants offered Fateha for the police officers and personnel martyred in Hangu, reaffirming their commitment to countering terrorism and restoring peace in the province.
Sources revealed that after consulting Imran Khan, an agreement was reached to finalize the provincial cabinet in line with his directives. PTI leaders reportedly emphasized that forming a cabinet without the founder’s input could create administrative and political complications.
One senior leader was quoted as saying that the parliamentary party had previously approved the provincial budget, but challenges later emerged due to a lack of coordination with the central leadership — a situation they aim to avoid this time.
The meeting also reviewed the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with participants discussing strategies to address the resurgence of militant attacks in various districts. PTI leaders decided to convene a “Peace Jirga” that will include representatives from political parties, tribal elders, and key stakeholders from different sectors to foster consensus against terrorism.
Speaking to Geo News after the meeting, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that discussions lasted over two hours. “The party leadership deliberated on multiple issues, including security challenges and the overall political landscape of the province,” he said.
Barrister Gohar added that various legal and political options for Imran Khan’s release were also considered during the meeting.
Political observers view this development as a strategic move to strengthen PTI’s governance structure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ensure greater coordination between the provincial leadership and the party’s central command amid growing political pressures.
The final list of cabinet members is expected to be announced soon after Imran Khan’s formal approval, marking a key step in stabilizing the province’s administrative machinery.
