MUZAFFARGARH( The COW News Digital) In a tragic incident that has left locals shocked, Muzaffargarh’s most famous and wealthiest beggar, Shoukat – popularly known as Shoukat Bhikari – died in a road accident near Jhingar Marha village. According to rescue sources, the accident occurred when Shoukat’s motorcycle collided with a loader rickshaw. He died on the spot.
Shoukat was not just any ordinary beggar. He had turned begging into what he proudly called an “art form,” often explaining his unique approach to passersby. Unlike others, he would only ask for one rupee, and if the donor didn’t have one, he would cheekily give them ten rupees instead – a move that left many amused and made him a local celebrity in Muzaffargarh and Multan.
Locals recall that Shoukat frequently boasted about his considerable wealth, showing off his bank statements to prove that he had hundreds of thousands of rupees in savings. He also owned several acres of agricultural land, making him one of the wealthiest men in the area despite his reputation as a beggar.
Residents described Shoukat as a witty and charismatic figure who used his unconventional begging style to engage with people and spread smiles. He was often seen riding his motorcycle from one town to another, asking for alms in both Urdu and English, a rare sight that drew attention and made him a recognizable personality across southern Punjab.
Shoukat, a father of three, was widely respected despite his unusual profession. Locals said he never begged out of poverty but rather considered it a skill, even a profession, which he performed with pride. His death has sparked sadness in the community, with many taking to social media to share stories of their interactions with him.
“Shoukat Bhikari was a symbol of how one can turn even begging into a brand,” said one local resident. “He taught us to look at life with humor, even in the most unusual circumstances.”
