World ( The cow news digital ) A Lahore court has delivered a major verdict in the long-running defamation case between Pakistani singer Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi, ruling in favor of Ali Zafar and ordering Meesha Shafi to pay damages.
The Sessions Court in Lahore announced its decision after years of legal proceedings stemming from allegations made by Meesha Shafi against Ali Zafar. The court ordered Meesha Shafi to pay 5 million rupees in damages, concluding one of the most closely followed entertainment industry legal battles in Pakistan.
The case was originally filed by Ali Zafar in 2018 after Meesha Shafi publicly accused him of sexual harassment. Following the allegations, Ali Zafar moved the court seeking damages of 1 billion rupees, arguing that the accusations had harmed his reputation and professional career.
In its final judgment, the court not only awarded damages in favor of Ali Zafar but also restrained Meesha Shafi from making any further social media posts related to harassment allegations against him. The court observed that the matter had already been adjudicated and further public commentary could have legal implications.
The case remained under trial for several years, during which both sides presented extensive evidence and witness testimony. According to court records, a total of 20 witnesses were examined during the proceedings.
