National ( The cow news digital ) Security agencies in Pakistan have made significant progress in the investigation into the killing of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Muhammad Idris, as investigators have obtained critical CCTV footage and identified one of the suspected militants involved in the attack.

According to official sources, surveillance cameras installed under the Safe City project captured clear images of the attackers who ambushed the politician in Charsadda. The footage has provided investigators with valuable leads, allowing them to trace movements and identify individuals linked to the targeted killing.

The incident occurred when Maulana Muhammad Idris was travelling from his residence to a religious seminary early Tuesday morning. Unidentified armed assailants opened fire on his vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot. Two police officers assigned for his security were also injured in the attack.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that four individuals were directly involved in the assault, and one of them has now been identified through facial recognition and intelligence-based verification. Authorities are actively working to uncover the complete network behind the attack, which they believe extends beyond local facilitators.

Preliminary findings suggest that the assassination was planned outside Pakistan. Investigators stated that initial intelligence indicates the attack was orchestrated in Afghanistan, with involvement of individuals linked to cross-border militant networks. However, officials have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects are being verified before drawing final conclusions.

Security forces have intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects, while forensic analysis of the crime scene and digital surveillance data continues. Officials are also coordinating with intelligence agencies to determine whether the attack was part of a broader targeted killing campaign in the region.

The killing has raised fresh concerns over security conditions for political and religious figures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where targeted attacks have previously been reported. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and dismantling networks involved in cross-border militancy.

Local police have increased security measures in sensitive areas, while checkpoints and search operations have been expanded across Charsadda and surrounding districts. Officials say further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.

The case remains under active investigation, and authorities have urged the public to remain patient while evidence is being thoroughly examined.
