KOHAT ( THE COW NEWS DIGITAL ) Six militants were killed during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed.
According to the District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat, Shehbaz Elahi, the operation was carried out in the jurisdiction of Lachi after authorities received credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.
Acting on the tip-off, teams from the police and the Counter Terrorism Department launched a joint search-and-strike operation to locate and neutralize the suspected terrorists.
During the operation, the militants opened fire on the security forces. In response, the police and CTD personnel returned fire, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. As a result of the encounter, six militants were killed on the spot.
Security officials stated that the slain militants were allegedly involved in multiple attacks against law enforcement agencies and other acts of sabotage in the region. Authorities also recovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition from the possession of the militants during the operation.
The DPO confirmed that a joint search operation by police and CTD teams is still ongoing in the surrounding areas to eliminate any remaining threats and ensure the safety of local residents.
Law enforcement agencies have also intensified efforts to track down facilitators and support networks that may have been assisting the militants. Officials say operations will continue until the entire network is dismantled.
The district of Kohat, located in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has witnessed several security operations in recent years as authorities continue their efforts to combat militancy and maintain peace in the region.
Security officials reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against terrorist elements and ensuring that those involved in violence against the state and its institutions are brought to justice.
