Islamabad(The COW News Digital) PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has confirmed that the opposition has accepted a government proposal for a meeting, with representatives from both sides scheduled to meet tomorrow at noon in the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Speaking to reporters, Barrister Gohar said the opposition received a message from the government regarding the proposed meeting. He said the opposition discussed the matter during its meeting today and decided to accept the government’s invitation in accordance with the decisions taken during the session.
According to Barrister Gohar, the government and opposition delegations will meet at 12 noon tomorrow in the office of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The meeting is expected to provide a formal platform for representatives of both sides to exchange views on ongoing political and parliamentary matters.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions and continued calls for dialogue between the government and opposition. In recent days, opposition representatives have raised several political and constitutional issues, while government officials have also indicated the need for parliamentary engagement to address matters through dialogue.
Barrister Gohar had previously said that communication between the government and opposition was taking place, although meaningful negotiations had not yet begun. On September 30, he called for greater political engagement and said discussions between the two sides should take place through parliamentary channels.
The National Assembly has previously played a role in facilitating contacts between the government and opposition. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has repeatedly emphasized Parliament as a forum for political dialogue and said that unresolved issues should be addressed through consultation and direct engagement between political representatives.
The upcoming meeting is also taking place against the backdrop of discussions over the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Barrister Gohar has publicly opposed the possibility of emergency measures or Governor’s Rule in the province and has called for political engagement instead. The government, meanwhile, has been considering its response to the province’s law-and-order and political situation.
Another issue contributing to the current political environment is PTI’s planned long march. The party has announced October 4 as the date for the march, while preparations and political consultations continue. The planned protest and the wider political dispute have increased the importance of contacts between the government and opposition.
For the opposition, Barrister Gohar has said that political matters should be addressed through political means and that dialogue remains an avenue for resolving differences. The government has also previously expressed willingness to engage with opposition representatives through parliamentary forums.
The meeting scheduled for tomorrow will therefore bring representatives of both sides together at a time when political tensions remain high. However, the exact agenda, composition of the delegations and issues to be discussed have not been fully disclosed in the statement announcing the meeting.
The decision to accept the government’s message follows the opposition’s internal consultation earlier today, according to Barrister Gohar. He said the opposition delegation would participate in the meeting after considering the outcome of its own discussions.
With both sides set to sit together in the Speaker’s office at noon, attention will now focus on whether the meeting leads to further consultations on the political and parliamentary issues currently under discussion.
