KARACHI (The COW News Digital) Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has officially kicked off its long march from Karachi toward Islamabad, vowing to maintain nationwide protests until the government completely abolishes the heavy petroleum levy.
Addressing representatives of the media at the Karachi Cantt Railway Station prior to departure, JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman declared that the party’s movement for economic justice has formally entered its decisive phase. He outlined that the initial leg of the march would make its first major stopover in Hyderabad before advancing through Sindh, Punjab, and ultimately converging on the federal capital.
Rehman sharply criticized the federal administration for imposing severe financial strains on ordinary citizens through exorbitant fuel taxation. He noted that while ministers continue to make public appearances, they consistently fail to provide tangible economic relief. According to the party chief, the authorities are directly forcing citizens onto the streets by deflecting responsibility onto global market conditions whenever petroleum prices surge.
“We have no desire to conduct protests in this severe heat,” Rehman remarked during his press briefing. “Our struggle is purely for the relief of the common man.” He issued a strong warning to the federal leadership, emphasizing that once public caravans from across the country converge on Islamabad, party organizers will no longer be able to restrain the swelling tide of public anger.
The party reiterated that the ongoing demonstration will only conclude when the federal government provides a formal, binding decision to scrap the levy.
