Islamabad (The COW News Digital)Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and efforts to protect Islam’s holiest sites, saying the two countries are moving towards a stronger and more comprehensive strategic partnership.
In a message marking Saudi Arabia’s National Day, the prime minister extended his warm greetings to the Saudi leadership and people. He said Pakistan takes pride in its historic, longstanding and time-tested fraternal relationship with Saudi Arabia.
Shehbaz Sharif said Saudi Arabia’s development and prosperity were a source of pride for Pakistan, highlighting the close ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
According to the prime minister, under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are evolving into a broader strategic partnership. He said the partnership is based on a shared commitment to promoting peace and security as well as strengthening unity among Muslim countries.
The prime minister also strongly condemned what he described as recent Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, including an alleged drone attack targeting the holy city of Makkah. He reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of any attempt that threatens Saudi territory or the security of the holy sites.
Shehbaz Sharif said the sanctity, dignity and security of the Holy Mosques were matters of deep importance to Muslims around the world. He stressed that any threat to the safety of the holy sites could deeply hurt the sentiments of Muslims globally.
The prime minister further referred to agreements signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as part of their commitment to closer security cooperation. He said the two countries had signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan stands with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, as well as protecting Islam’s holiest sites.
The statement comes amid efforts by Islamabad and Riyadh to deepen their strategic relationship across security, defence and other areas of bilateral cooperation. The two countries have repeatedly described their relationship as rooted in longstanding historical, religious and economic ties.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close diplomatic relations, with cooperation extending beyond defence and security to trade, investment, energy and people-to-people links. The latest statement from the prime minister underlined Islamabad’s continued emphasis on the security of Saudi Arabia and the protection of the Holy Mosques.
