Islamabad(The COW News Digital)Maryam Riaz Wattoo, sister of Bushra Bibi, has issued a detailed statement on social media recounting the events of November 26, 2024, and her sister’s role during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. Her remarks came alongside a widely circulated image from the protest that took place outside Islamabad’s Red Zone.

In her post, Maryam said that Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, did not abandon the protest despite serious threats to her life. She claimed that Bushra was following the instructions of Imran Khan, who had directed her to remain present with party workers during the demonstrations.

According to Maryam, Bushra Bibi had travelled for nearly two consecutive days to reach Islamabad on November 26, after which she refused to return. “Leaving the protest would have been a violation of Imran Khan’s directions,” Maryam wrote, emphasizing that her sister’s commitment remained unwavering even as the situation grew increasingly volatile.

She further alleged that Bushra Bibi faced direct gunfire on the night of the protest. Despite the danger, Maryam said Bushra stood alongside PTI supporters while “many so-called leaders disappeared from the scene.” These claims add another layer of controversy to the events of the night, as clashes between police and protesters intensified in multiple parts of the capital.

Maryam also stated that Bushra Bibi was forcibly removed from the protest later that night. According to her, Bushra was reportedly denied access to her phone for nearly two days following the incident. Maryam claimed that the intention behind this restriction was to prevent Bushra Bibi from communicating her message to the public.

Describing her own experience, Maryam said she waited anxiously through the night for any message or call from her sister. She added that the only information she had received was that Bushra had come under fire. “But I knew she was not someone who would flee the field,” Maryam wrote, expressing confidence in her sister’s resolve.

The incident occurred as PTI’s national protest gained momentum across the country, with several clashes reported between demonstrators and law enforcement. Hospitals had received a number of injured protesters and at least a few fatalities, further highlighting the intensity of the unrest.

Maryam’s account has reignited debate over the handling of the protest and the treatment of PTI leadership during the crackdown. No official confirmation has yet been provided regarding her allegations.
