ISLAMABAD — The ruling government coalition and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have separately initiated high-level contacts with the opposition alliance to engage on key parliamentary matters.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq invited leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to his chamber for consultations. Prior to entering the meeting, senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser stated that the opposition delegation would demand full implementation of court directives concerning the transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment. Former PTI Secretary General Asad Umar expressed hope that the dialogue would lead to positive political outcomes, while emphasizing that immediate focus remains centered on health concerns.
Concurrently, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari led a party delegation to meet with opposition alliance head Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas, alongside other alliance leaders. According to PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, the PPP welcomed recent Supreme Court rulings and requested a restoration of direct political engagement between both sides.
An official statement issued by the opposition alliance noted that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari requested the opposition’s return to parliamentary committees. Opposition representatives informed the PPP leadership that a final decision regarding parliamentary committee participation will be taken following direct consultations with the party founder. Meanwhile, senior PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf characterized the interactions as standard parliamentary procedure aimed at maintaining communication lines among political parties.
