National ( The cow news digital ) The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced nationwide highway demonstrations today, August 7, to protest the federal government’s refusal to reduce petrol and diesel prices and the imposition of excessive petroleum levies.
Speaking in Lahore, JI Vice President Liaquat Baloch called on citizens across the country to join the protests to defend their economic rights. He strongly criticized the current administration, stating that the government’s unfair extortion through heavy taxation on essential commodities is entirely unacceptable to the general public.
“The rulers must see the writing on the wall; public anger is reaching a boiling point,” Baloch declared. He warned the authorities to abandon policies that burden the masses to fill state treasuries, adding that public pressure would eventually force the leadership to yield.
The protest initiative, led by JI Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, includes sit-ins and road closures across 510 designated locations nationwide. Party leadership emphasized that while major thoroughfares will be blocked, emergency services such as ambulances will be given free passage. Rehman cautioned that if authorities attempt to disrupt the peaceful demonstrations, the movement against petroleum levies will escalate into a wider campaign to remove the government.
