National ( The cow news digital ) Pakistan has launched a renewed crackdown against Afghan nationals residing in the country without legal documents, following the expiration of the government’s deadline for voluntary repatriation.
The government had given undocumented Afghan residents until July 11 to return to Afghanistan voluntarily. After the deadline ended, authorities began implementing stricter measures against those who failed to leave.
In Peshawar, particularly in areas including Ashangari Phatak and nearby locations, security operations have intensified. Authorities are conducting searches, detaining individuals suspected of illegal residency, and taking action against unauthorized settlements.
Videos circulating from the area show officials carrying out operations to remove illegal structures and clear alleged unauthorized shelters. Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers to maintain control and ensure the smooth execution of the operation.
Police and security forces have established checkpoints across different parts of Peshawar, where strict checking is being carried out. Officials are verifying identification documents and taking action against individuals found without valid legal status.
Authorities have introduced a new approach in dealing with undocumented Afghan nationals. Previously, detained individuals were generally presented before courts, a process that could take considerable time. Under the latest strategy, officials have stated that those found illegally residing in Pakistan may be directly deported without lengthy legal procedures.
Government officials have emphasized that the operation will continue until all undocumented foreign nationals are removed from the country in accordance with the law.
Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees for decades due to conflicts in Afghanistan. In recent years, authorities have increased efforts to regulate undocumented migration, citing security, economic, and administrative concerns.
