National ( The cow news digital ) The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has officially nominated Advocate Amjad Hussain as its candidate for the position of Chief Minister in Gilgit-Baltistan, marking a significant political development in the region’s post-election government formation process.

According to party sources, Amjad Hussain has been selected as the PPP’s nominee for the top administrative office in Gilgit-Baltistan, making him the first candidate from the Gilgit region to be put forward by the party for the chief ministership. The decision reflects PPP’s growing confidence in its electoral performance and its strategic positioning ahead of the formation of a new regional government.

Amjad Hussain, who currently serves as the PPP Gilgit-Baltistan president, secured victory in the recent elections from constituency GBA-1 Gilgit. His nomination is being viewed as a key step toward consolidating the party’s claim to form the next government in the region.

The nomination comes at a time when the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has released official results for 21 out of 24 constituencies. According to the notification, the PPP has emerged as the single largest party with 9 seats, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 6 seats, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) with 4 seats, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) with 1 seat, and independent candidates securing 1 seat.

In addition, reserved seat allocations have further strengthened PPP’s position. Out of six women’s reserved seats, PPP secured three, while PML-N obtained two and IPP claimed one. Similarly, in the technocrat category, each of PPP, PML-N, and IPP received one seat.

PPP leader Nayyar Hussain Bukhari stated that when reserved and technocrat seats are included, the party’s total strength rises to between 17 and 19 seats, giving it a clear majority to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan. He expressed confidence that the party would successfully establish its government in the region.

However, results from three constituencies, including key areas in Skardu and Diamer, are still pending, which could influence the final political alignment. Despite this, PPP leaders maintain that their position remains strong enough to secure governance.

The political landscape in Gilgit-Baltistan is now expected to see intensified negotiations among parties and independents as the process of government formation moves forward in the coming days.
