Colombo( The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s journey in the Women’s World Cup came to a disappointing end as South Africa defeated them by a massive 150-run margin (DLS method) in a rain-affected encounter at Colombo. The emphatic victory not only secured South Africa’s place in the next stage but also confirmed Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.

Batting first in a match reduced by rain interruptions, South Africa posted a formidable total of 312 runs in 40 overs. The Proteas’ top order displayed exceptional form, led by captain Laura Wolvaardt, who anchored the innings with a fluent 90 runs, while Sune Luus added an impressive 61. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp made a decisive impact, scoring 68 runs and later taking three key wickets, earning her the Player of the Match award.

Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to contain South Africa’s aggressive batting lineup. Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu were the only bright spots, claiming three wickets each, but the rest of the attack failed to make an impact as the South African batters dominated throughout.

In reply, Pakistan faced a daunting revised target of 234 runs in 20 overs under the DLS method after further rain interruptions. The national side never looked in control and could only manage 83 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Sidra Nawaz was the top scorer with 22 runs, followed by Natalia Pervaiz (20) and Sidra Ameen (13). No other batter reached double figures, reflecting Pakistan’s batting woes under pressure. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp continued her brilliance with the ball, taking three wickets, while Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba provided crucial breakthroughs.

The defeat has once again raised questions about Pakistan’s batting depth and consistency in international women’s cricket. Despite moments of promise earlier in the tournament, the team struggled to deliver under high-pressure situations.

Cricket analysts believe that Pakistan’s elimination underscores the urgent need for investment in women’s cricket infrastructure, coaching, and domestic competition to nurture emerging talent capable of competing on the global stage.

With this win, South Africa solidified their standing as one of the tournament’s strongest contenders, displaying balance, discipline, and strategic brilliance in both batting and bowling departments.
