World ( The cow news digital ) Russia has stated that Iran is fully entitled to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes under international law, reinforcing its long-standing position on Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which allows member states to develop nuclear technology for civilian use under regulatory frameworks.

Lavrov reiterated that uranium enrichment for peaceful energy production and scientific applications is permitted under international agreements, and should not be treated as inherently unlawful. He added that Russia welcomes ongoing diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States and supports any solution agreed upon by both sides.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that Moscow would back any mutually acceptable arrangement reached through negotiations, signaling Russia’s preference for a diplomatic resolution to the long-running nuclear dispute.

Russia has consistently maintained a relatively moderate stance on Iran’s nuclear programme and has supported efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

The United States and Israel, however, continue to express concern that Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities could potentially be used to develop nuclear weapons in the future. They have repeatedly called for stricter limitations on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Iran, for its part, has denied any intention of developing nuclear weapons, insisting that its nuclear programme is focused solely on peaceful applications such as electricity generation, medical research, and scientific development.

The latest statement from Moscow highlights the ongoing geopolitical divide over Iran’s nuclear programme, with Russia positioning itself as a key supporter of diplomatic compromise rather than confrontation.
