World ( The cow news digital ) The United States has described Pakistan as a “loyal friend” amid ongoing diplomatic discussions involving Iran, with senior American defence officials praising Islamabad’s role in facilitating regional dialogue.

Speaking during an interview in Singapore, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that any agreement with Iran would ultimately be positive, stressing that Tehran must not be allowed to develop or possess nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

He reiterated Washington’s long-standing position that Iran should not acquire nuclear capabilities, adding that the United States would continue to pursue outcomes aligned with its national security interests.

Commenting on Pakistan’s involvement in Iran–US engagement efforts, Hegseth referred to Pakistan as a sincere and dependable partner of the United States. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan’s leadership, stating that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir have played a commendable role in supporting peace-related discussions between the two sides.

According to him, constructive diplomacy between nations remains essential for regional stability, and Pakistan’s engagement reflects a positive trajectory in bilateral relations with Washington. He further noted that trust and cooperation between the two countries are strengthening over time.

The US defence official added that President Donald Trump would make any final decisions regarding Iran based on American interests, underscoring that US foreign policy decisions remain guided by national priorities.

The remarks come at a time of heightened diplomatic activity surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security concerns. International stakeholders continue to push for a negotiated settlement aimed at preventing further escalation and ensuring stability in the Middle East.

Pakistan’s role as a facilitator in regional diplomatic engagements has drawn attention from global observers, particularly as Islamabad maintains strategic relations with both Western powers and neighbouring countries.

While no formal agreement has been announced, statements from US officials indicate ongoing appreciation for diplomatic channels involving Pakistan, as efforts continue to shape a potential framework for future negotiations with Iran.
