VIRGINIA(The COW News Digital) A pet horse in the United States has officially been recognized as the world’s oldest living female horse, earning a title from Guinness World Records at the age of 37 years and 329 days.
The horse, named Fancy, belongs to Paige Sigmon Bloomer, a resident of the US state of Virginia. According to official documentation submitted for verification, Fancy was born on April 1, 1988. Her remarkable longevity has now secured her a place in the global record books.
In a heartwarming coincidence, Bloomer shares the same birth date as her beloved horse. The two have grown up together for decades, forming a bond that has endured through life’s many stages. Bloomer was eight years old when Fancy came into her life, and the pair have remained inseparable ever since.
To secure the record, Bloomer provided verified proof of Fancy’s age to Guinness officials. Following a detailed review process, the organization confirmed Fancy as the oldest living female horse in the world. She inherited the title after the passing of Basclad, a 38-year-old horse that died in 2025.

Speaking to Guinness World Records, Bloomer reflected on Fancy’s journey and the challenges that have come with age. She noted that as Fancy grew older, the horse began experiencing various health issues common among aging animals. However, Bloomer emphasized that Fancy has shown resilience and a strong spirit despite these difficulties.
Veterinary experts often point out that the average lifespan of a horse ranges between 25 and 30 years, making Fancy’s achievement particularly extraordinary. Proper care, nutrition, regular veterinary attention and a supportive environment are considered key factors in extending a horse’s life expectancy.
Bloomer credits attentive care and a deep emotional connection for Fancy’s well-being over the years. She described the record as not only a personal milestone but also a celebration of the companionship they have shared for nearly four decades.
Fancy’s recognition highlights the enduring bond between humans and animals and serves as an inspiring reminder of the rewards of long-term commitment and responsible pet ownership.
