National ( The cow news digital ) The death toll from measles in Pakistan has reached 102 during 2026, according to data shared by sources within the Ministry of National Health Services.

Officials reported that Sindh has recorded the highest number of measles-related deaths in the country, with 53 fatalities reported so far this year. The rising number of cases has raised concerns among health authorities, particularly regarding the impact of the disease on young children.

According to available figures, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 27 deaths from measles, while Punjab recorded 15 fatalities. Balochistan reported seven deaths linked to the disease during the same period.

Health officials also shared provincial data regarding suspected and confirmed measles cases. In Punjab, 11,192 suspected cases were reported this year, of which 2,126 were confirmed as measles infections.

In Sindh, authorities identified 7,105 suspected cases, with 2,280 patients testing positive for the disease. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 8,912 suspected cases, among which 3,199 were confirmed.

Balochistan reported 858 suspected measles cases, with 349 confirmed infections. In Azad Kashmir, 616 suspected cases were reported, and 216 were confirmed, while Gilgit-Baltistan recorded 230 suspected cases, including 64 confirmed cases.

The federal capital Islamabad also reported measles cases, with 153 suspected infections recorded during the year. Health officials confirmed the disease in 85 patients.

Medical experts have warned that measles can become dangerous, particularly for children under five years of age and those suffering from malnutrition. They emphasized the importance of timely vaccination, early diagnosis, and proper medical care to prevent severe complications.

Common symptoms of measles include high fever, red skin rashes, cough, runny nose, and inflammation of the eyes. Health specialists advise parents to seek medical attention if children show signs of infection, especially in areas where cases are increasing.

Public health authorities continue to promote vaccination campaigns and awareness programs to control the spread of measles across the country. Experts say maintaining high vaccination coverage is essential to reduce infections and prevent further deaths.

The latest figures highlight the ongoing challenge of controlling vaccine-preventable diseases and the need for stronger healthcare measures to protect vulnerable communities.
