Karachi — (The Cow new digital) The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for Karachi, warning that temperatures in the city may rise significantly today, with the mercury expected to reach up to 38°C.
According to the latest forecast, the minimum temperature recorded during the night was around 27°C, while daytime conditions are expected to become much hotter. Meteorologists stated that the rise in temperature is accompanied by high humidity levels, which are likely to make the weather feel even more uncomfortable for residents.
Officials reported that humidity in the air is currently around 78 percent, while southwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of approximately 19 kilometers per hour. The combination of heat and moisture is expected to increase discomfort levels across the city.
Health experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the rising heat intensity. They warned that extreme temperatures can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, dehydration, and infections, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
Doctors have recommended that people avoid consuming outside food and beverages during this period, as higher temperatures can accelerate food spoilage and increase the risk of foodborne illnesses. Citizens are also advised to wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing to reduce heat absorption.
Medical specialists further suggested that individuals should cover their heads when stepping outdoors, stay hydrated by drinking clean and boiled water, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak afternoon hours.
In addition, experts emphasized maintaining personal hygiene by keeping the skin clean and dry, particularly in conditions of excessive sweating, to prevent rashes, skin infections, and allergic reactions. Washing the face with cool water and using a mild moisturizer can help protect the skin from dryness and irritation.
Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines to minimize health risks during the ongoing hot weather conditions. The Met Office is expected to continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates if conditions worsen.
